L6 insight afternoon at AstraZeneca
On the 14th June, 5 selected L6 students and Ms Curry were lucky enough to go AstraZeneca for an insight afternoon. Students were given an insight into working in a laboratory setting, the concepts of collaborative pharmacological research as well as the opportunity to talk to graduate and apprenticeship degree students about their university choices and UCAS experiences. The highlight was an escape room style experience where the students were required to use laboratory skills, and team work to escape.
Student Maddi Anderson reflects on the experience:
"The trip to Medimmune was thoroughly enjoyable. After a virtual reality ‘experience’, we were put through our paces in a team lab challenge which really gave us a feel for the collaborative working environment of a pharmaceutical company, both in and out of the lab. The stunning, sustainable design of their new build really blew us away and speaking with the students and apprentices gave us valuable insight into exciting (and money saving!) industry alternatives to a traditional degree. It was a fantastic immersive experience that we would recommend to all budding scientists."
