Bringing their art to the heart of the community, the pupils of Dame Bradbury's exhibited their work inspired by the polymath Leonardo da Vinci at Bridge End Garden this week, celebrating not only their own skills but also the 500th anniversary of his death.
The exhibition showcased creative work from every child from Kindergarten to Year 6, in an outdoor exhibition, with pieces displayed in amongst the trees and foliage as well as in the rose garden and summer house. On display were clay water features, feats of drawing engineering, Sacred Geometry, Iron Age chariots and mathematical weaving, to name a few. Members of the local community mingled with school pupils and parents to enjoy the artwork displayed topped off with dance and musical performances to entertain the crowds.
In true da Vinci style, engineering challenges were set up for the visitors to solve, such as the self-supporting bridge.
Mayor of Saffron Walden, Councillor Arthur Coote, visiting the exhibition, commented on the excellent work on display and complimented the Year 6 tour guides on their explanation of the intricate artwork and engineering involved in the projects.
Head of Dame Bradbury's, Tracy Handford added: “Bridge End gardens is an important part of Saffron Walden’s heritage and culture and as a local school we are very pleased to bring together the children’s passion for creativity and engineering to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci.”
Many parents commented on the exhibition being one of the highlights of the year: a wonderful way to share the outcomes of the amazing creative learning that takes place. Leonardo da Vinci would have some competition if he were alive today due to the high standard of creativity and engineering on display.
