'Off We Go' sketching with Year 1

Published on 02/07/19

As part of our 'Off We Go' topic, our Year 1 Cambridge city pupils have been developing their sketching skills.

After a vote on what they should sketch, they decided on a house. With this in mind, off they went! Settling down opposite the building, the pupils learnt different techniques on how to create texture such as stippling or dot work. They also used shade to create tone in their sketches. The pupils expressed their delight with the house being made up of squares and rectangles as the straight edges were easier to draw. The final sketches are available to see on display in their classroom, proudly signed by each artist.
